Slavery in the Chocolate Industry
A documentary highlighting the problem of child slavery in the chocolate industry today. There are more slaves in the 21st century than there have ever been before. Many children are trafficked into the cocoa industry in the Ivory Coast, forced to work long hours in dangerous conditions (think: pesitcides, machetes) without pay, and beaten or given other harsh punishments if they try to escape. A child from Burkina Faso can be sold for 230 Euros - including transport to the Ivory Coast.
Damnit I love all chocolate. Gonna reblog to remind myself to watch it when it gets published from my queue. My university is running a campaign to boycott Nestle, one of the main chocolate companies implicit in child slavery.
